Intermezzo // 05 : counting down the days

Our life has been such a busy whirlwind juggling between designing for our thesis project, printing them out, revising the report, deciding on the merchandise, making presentation, buying tons of stuffs, visualizing the display, and basically everything that revolve around thesis. Also, plus working in the studio for Fili ((I will save that story for later)).

I kind of have a mixed feeling working on this thesis. My mood has extremely goes up and down as well as my level of productivity. It's true that I am working on something that I loved so much since I was young, it is something that I am extremely passionate about. But then again, sometimes it can be very overwhelming and I started questioning if I did make the right decision or if I did well enough to be proud of it. In one side, I feel like I want all of this to end as soon as possible, but in another side, I feel like there are gazillion things that I can do to perfect it or at least to make it better.

It's not only me, I think both Yelny and I sort of have the same feeling. I think when it will finally end up, it is going to be bittersweet. After all, this thesis marks the end journey of our three and a half years study in university. So it is kind of bitter to say goodbye to our university life, but in the same time, it is going to be so relieving to finally finish our study.

Actually, we still meet up a lot to work on our thesis together with our friend, Joan. Since I have to work three days a week which are usually Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we met up on my days off. We would usually pick a restaurant or mall or coffee shop and hang out there and work on our thesis. I was not a big fan of working together back then because it kinda distract me but doing this actually helped me a lot. Since we can not meet out adviser frequently, we got to exchange our opinion and suggestion to one another by working together.

While I am not working together with Yelny and Joan, I love to be accompanied by music. I feel more energized listening to the songs while singing and dancing to them. If you know me, you know I love Korean music, so it is pretty obvious that K-pop is my go to jam. This song has been on replay from my laptop or phone because I just love D.O and his voice so much. His voice has always been my favorite out of all EXO members. And this song? Just, perfect.

Unlike me, Yelny does not really listen to music when she is working on her thesis. But this is one of the songs that somehow always calm her mind when she is not having a good mood. This is not a very recent song but not that old either. And if you don't know yet, Yelny is a fan of Jay Chou. She said that Jay Chou's voice is so soothing and she especially loved this song because it has always been in her playlist from few years ago.

Okay, that's a little update from us. And bonus: here's a  wallpaper made by Yelny for the sake of thesis motivation ^^ haha. We just can't help it! We love checking our social media so much and usually it takes so much time without us realizing it. So, maybe, by seeing this on your wallpaper everyday, you can hold yourself from opening those social media and focus on working on thesis to graduate.

We know that some of last year university students are also facing the similar situation with us. So, hold on there! Keep your spirit up! This too shall pass :)

Yey,
Cheers!

Papercutting Workshop with Tatyana Renatta by Monstore

Workshop has been popular recently. People spend their free time to learn new thing by joining a workshop, and so do we. It was actually a giveaway workshop from Monstore with Tatyana Renatta about Papercut hosted by Manual. The giveaway queen, Fili randomly joined the giveaway on instagram, and thank God, she won it (again). The giveaway was valid for 2 people, so she invited me to join the workshop with her. If you are one of the followers on her social media, you might see many posts about the winning giveaway. She should share tips and tricks how to win giveaway here on the blog, shouldn't she? ;)

The workshop started at 1 p.m. in Artotel, Thamrin. Before the workshop started, Tatyana showed us her artwork of Papercut. The photos above were just several artworks of her, Her artworks were super cool, right? Visit her Instagram and you will see many awesome Papercut artworks. But wait, we were not making like that. We learned from basic, guys.

Papercut is a new thing for us. Things we used to do using cutter was only straight line and helped by a ruler (failed art student :P). Each participant was given a kit. Inside the kits were pen cutter, A4 cutting mat, basic paper cutting, pen and paper.

Started from the basic, we cut the straight line, curved line, circle and dolphin. The paper used was 70gr A4 paper. It looked easy, but seriously, it was hard. Our straight line were not straight, and the dolphin was messy, lol.

After we finished the basic, we were given challenge to cut our name. Oh my God! It was so much harder. The paper used was thicker than the basic one, if I'm not mistaken, it's watercolor paper. After 30 minutes, we finished our name. The result in the photos is so much better than the real one (please don't zoom the photos :")).

Last but not least, she gave us another challenge, greeting card. I got pattern and butterfly card, and Fili got the boy and girl silhouette and same butterfly as mine, but I forgot to capture hers (sorry, Fili :")) It took so much time to do it, and unfortunately, time was up, we must finish the card at home.

Group photo to finish up the workshop! Too bad, I brought 50mm lens and the room was not wide enough, so the photos should be captured from the side. Btw, I was wondering why this workshop was joined by 2 boys only? Is paper cutting too feminine for boys, LOL?

Well, It was a super valuable workshop. We learned a new art that we didn't learn at university. We would like to thank Tatyana for her patience to teach us a lot about Papercut. Also, Thanks to Monstore for conducting the workshop and also Manual for hosting the giveaway.

Yeey,
Cheers!

#LLHappyNest : Say It with Chocolate

Brush Lettering and Chocolate Making Workshop with Living Loving and Pipiltin Cocoa by Candy After Dinner

Back on June 2015, Living Loving -one of my favorite local digital media-, hosted a series of workshop called Happy Nest. This was not the first time Living Loving made a workshop, but this was indeed the first time they made a series of workshop for two weekends back to back. Whoop! I was super attracted with the workshops of course, but then I decided to just try my luck by joining the giveaway.

Here's what I wrote on my entry:
Living Loving, just like what its name suggest is a lovely media that I have been following closely since I found out about them. I love how @livinglovingnet is always creative and innovative in terms of engaging more with the readers.
I have to say honestly that I was so curious when they first released the teaser of Happy Nest ((and can I add how perfect this name of workshop is?)) Finding out about what it was indeed made me happy, especially this class.
Simply put, this class is like coming to a wedding of my two loves. One being food and another being design ❤ ❤ ❤ oh my, when these two get married, I can't imagine how amazing will their marriage be. And I hope I can be involved in this sweet occasion as well ❤  #LLHappyNestquiz
And guess what? I WON!!! Woohoo! Thank you so much Living Loving for somehow picking my name from the raffle. So, let's move on to the report of the D-day!

The workshop took place in Pipiltin Cocoa, Barito. I was a bit late since the venue is a bit far from my home. When I arrived, I met the other participants. There are around 8 or 9 people in total if I'm not mistaken. The workshop started by an introduction from Miranti, one of the co-founder of Living Loving and also our mentor of the day. It began with a little introduction about Living Loving before moving on to the subject which was brush lettering. Mamir shared with us her favorite tools as well as the artists that have inspired her works.

After that, we started practicing. Each participant was given a lettering kit. Inside the kit were lots of paper for practicing, brush, palette, ink, and pencil. They also provided poster color to be shared among participants. We started with basic practice by drawing lines, curls, swirls and shapes before moving on to alphabets. While we were practicing, Mamir suggested us to start thinking the design for the chocolate wrapping.

When we have felt confident with our choice of phrase, we started painting the wrapping paper. Since we would make two bars of chocolate, we also designed two papers for wrapping. The first one that I made is inspired by this blog, so I just simply wrote 'Candy After Dinner'. For the second one, I used my favorite color, red! After that I wrote a motivational phrase as a reminder and a doodle of cough myself cough.

While we were waiting for our creation to dry, we went to the small chocolate factory right inside Pipiltin Cocoa itself. This is my first time going to a chocolate factory so I was really excited. Though this one was not as big and quirky as the one in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but this one is more than enough to satisfy my curiosity. The founder of Pipiltin Cocoa itself explained the process of making the chocolate from scratch. Seeing how all the chocolate is made from high quality product and detailed process, I came to appreciate it more than before.

The good news is, we also got to make our own creation of the chocolate bar! After the chocolate is processed, we could use it based on our creation. For this workshop, we could make two chocolate bars. But to make it prettier, we can use colored white chocolate and splashed it into the base of the mold.

After that, we just poured the chocolate into the mold and put the extra beans or cocoa nibs on top of it. In order to make it last longer, we should shove the beans and cocoa into the inside of the chocolate. Next, we could put it into the freezer for about 5-15 minutes then our chocolate is ready!

While waiting for the chocolate to set, we got to taste this chocolate shot which is incredibly good!!! I have never had authentic chocolate drink before so I did not have much expectation. But it turned out to be so good. It is the right amount of sweet and bitterness. The creaminess texture is also fine because it did not feel too thick. Oh, we also got to enjoy the short movie about chocolate making process.

The chocolate was finally ready. So, it's time to wrap!

By the time we finished wrapping, it was also the end of the workshop Say It with Chocolate with Living Loving. I really did not realize how the hours have passed while I was having fun crafting and creating things. All in all, it was a lovely and enjoyable workshop. I would like to thank Mamir and Nike once again for hosting this wonderful workshop and having that giveaway so I could join. It was a really valuable experience that inspires me to do more, make more and practice more. Also, thank you to Pipiltin Cocoa for sharing your knowledge with us and having us in your factory to create our own chocolate.

#CraftyAfterDinner

HELLOOO! Long time no see! I didn't write any post for a long time, I was busy of my internship. It made us being miss to each other. I had so many stories to be share and so does fili. Btw, before I share about #CraftyAfterDinner, let me share about the story behind it. We planned to have a meeting in National Gallery of Indonesia since last month. We arrived there at 10 A.M. and walking around looking for the way to get in to the gallery, But, all galleries were closed until September due  to renovation. So, we were moving to Grand Indonesia to enjoy Jakarta Great Sale and be crafty.

Fili has remaining stitch-stuffs of her portfolio. So, we decided to do some craft using it. She tough me simple cross-stitch. We were begin with ♥ pattern .

Our serious face while doing the stitch.

TADAAAA! Our (actually it's Fili's) DIY cross-stitch has done. Mine was unfinished and failed :(.

Cut cut the ♥, stick it to kraft card (which can be found here), write some notes, and VOILA, new handmade greeting card has done (see another handmade greeting card here).

Taking some photos with our new handmade greeting card :) .

Anyway, say Hi! to Fili's new Oxford Shoes :) .

Finally, we made something productive between our hectic day and we are going to make another craft using #CraftyAfterDinner. Anw, Fili is joining a competition by Samsung Galaxy A. Please help vote for her in this three easy steps :

1. Go to Galaxy Commenity's web and log in via Facebook or Twitter.

 2. Open Fili's account (click here) and like all the pictures on the page.

3. Please help share this post too. After all, Sharing is Caring, right ? :D
